about

to give is an exploration of the inner reaches of the chronic people-pleaser; a passage into the vulnerabilities of giving and receiving through the lens of meditative and brooding piano. to give began as a christmas gift when refelcting on the inadequacy of materialism to communicate through the complexity of intimacy.

this piece is for gentlethems, soft bois, and lovers returning home from work and wondering whether to answer the call; to lay side by side and bare all; a soundtrack for the lifelong work of relating to one another.

lyrics

what should I give to you my love?
what is it to give a love, enough?

a diamond ring on a piece of string,
the promises you will never bring,
oh you never bring them back to me.
the thread of words that I never heard
oh the things that I could just not say,
oh what I could ever say, oh what I could ever say.

never know what to give,
never know what to keep
I never know what’s too deep
I never know what’s too shallow
I suppose it’s enough

what is it to receive some love, love?
how does it feel to give enough, and get some?

a diamond ring on a piece of string,
the promises you will never bring,
oh you never bring them back to me,
the thread of words that you never heard
oh the things that I could just not say,
oh what I could ever say, oh what I could ever say.

never know what to give,
never know what to keep,
I never know what’s too deep
I never know what’s too shallow
I hope it’s enough
